MD5 is an algorithm which takes an input of any length, and outputs a string of exactly 32 characters, made up from hexadecimal values (0-9 and a-f). This string is called the MD5 sum or hash. The properties of the MD5 algorithm make it very useful for a number of tasks; one use is that it can be used to validate that a file has not been modified during a download or transfer process. World Community Grid is providing the MD5 sum calculated for the WorldCommunityGridAgent.exe. When a user downloads the agent, they can also generate the MD5 sum of the file using one of the utilities listed below. If the MD5 sum generated with the utility matches the one provided by World Community Grid, then the agent they downloaded is the agent provided by World Community Grid. This process allows the user to validate that the file was not intercepted or modified during the download process. If the MD5 sums do not match, then the user should delete the local copy of the WorldCommiunityGridAgent.exe file and repeat the download and verification process.
